New MASTER Colour CDM-R111 Lamps Bring User Benefits to Retail Lighting

Philips Lighting, the creator of the ceramic metal halide lamp, announces the latest extension to it’s highly successful MASTER Colour CDM range.

The MASTER Colour CDM-R111 lamps combine the great looks of the popular 111mm aluminium reflector halogen lamps with the long life and high energy efficiency of MASTER Colour CDM. The lamp is currently undergoing its initial market trials and is due for first availability by April 2003. Initially launched in 35W types, there will be three beam widths, 8°, 24° and 45°, to best suit individual installation requirements. With a colour classification of /830, the MASTER Colour CDM-R111 will have a colour rendering index of Ra8>80 and a warm, welcoming colour temperature of 3000K.

These new MASTER Colour lamps are expected to be of great interest to retailers where the attractive modern looks of the 111mm aluminium reflector halogen lamps are appreciated but where there is a desire for the well established features offered by the CDM family such as longer life (3 x longer than halogen) and high energy efficiency. These features can bring the end user real financial benefits through reduced costs of ownership, not to mention a reduction in the hassle of lighting maintenance. Philips CDM-R 111 has a staggering peak beam intensity of up to 30,000cd (35W CDM-R111 is as bright as 100W halogen) and so, with a very attractive looking lamp, can provide dramatic highlighting effects in product displays and windows, even against the high ambient lighting levels encountered in shop interiors.

User comfort was at the front of Philips developers minds when working on the MASTER Colour CDM-R111. The lamp uses a unique reflector design and glare shield to ensure that the light goes where it is needed and helps keep uncomfortable glare to a minimum. The use of the highly efficient CDM technology also means that more of the energy consumed by the lamp is converted to light, helping keep uncomfortable and damaging hot spots to a minimum, whilst cutting air conditioning load. Maintenance has also been made as simple as possible by the use of a twist and lock GU8.5 lamp connector developed in coordination with BJB.

CDM-R111 incorporates a discretely hidden ‘shatter shield’ around the discharge vessel in order to allow the lamp to be used in open luminaires without spoiling its appearance.

Philips position as a total lighting systems supplier has allowed the simultaneous development of a twin 35W ‘PrimaVision’ electronic ballast. Ideally suited to be used with the CDM-R111 lamps in multi lamp gimble type fittings.
