A new family of meter packs, added to Eaton's Memshield 2 low voltage distribution range, provides energy metering in line with the latest requirements of Building Regulation L2:

Two types of these
Eaton meter packs are available - a Class 1 multi-function meter providing visual readout of a wide range of parameters including energy (kWh), reactive power (kVAr), voltage, current and power factor, and an Ofgem approved and certified meter providing visual readout of energy only. Both meters also provide a pulsed output for remote energy monitoring.
The meter packs are housed in enclosures that can be mounted below Eaton's
Memshield 2 Type B (three-phase) MCB distribution boards to provide energy metering of the loads supplied through the board.
The latest (April 2006) requirements of
Building Regulations Part L2: Conservation of Fuel & Power recommend that at least 90% of the estimated annual energy consumption in a building should be accounted for. This applies particularly to new buildings with a gross floor area greater than 500 m2. Loads greater than 50kW (i.e. about 69A) should have separate sub-metering. The requirement is satisfied by providing sub-circuit metering, either at the main switchboard or at sub-distribution boards.
Features:
The Class 1 meter pack provides six-digit display of kilowatt hours as its default setting, however buttons on the front panel allow other parameters to be selected including volts, amps, power factor, kW and kVAr for each phase or for the total system. Average system volts, amps and power factor can also be displayed and there is a 'partial register' facility so that kWh and kVArh can be measured over a set period. The meter also provides a pulse output of kWh as standard (kVArh if required) for other monitoring and control systems including data loggers and automatic monitoring and targeting systems.
On the Memshield 2 Type B distribution boards:
The Class 1 meter pack is a standard accessory in the Memshield 2 range of Type B distribution boards. EN61036 Class 1 operation is a higher accuracy classification than the Class 2 meters normally used at the main intake position. The meter pack uses current transformers, making it suitable for applications from 100A to 200A. It can also be used to monitor single-phase loads if required.
The alternative, 100A direct connection, meter pack uses an Ofgem approved and certified direct-connected polyphase meter which gives visual and pulsed output measurement of kilowatt hours only. It is offered as a solution for customers who only require kWh energy metering but may need the added assurance of Ofgem (Office of Gas and Electricity Markets) approval and certification.
Memshield 2 is a popular range of Type B distribution boards, normally offered as 125A and 200A TPN units with a variety of incomers including switch-disconnectors, fused combination switches, moulded-case circuit-breakers, residual current circuit-breakers or direct connection lugs and with a choice of 4, 6, 8, 12, 16 or 24 outgoing ways. Vertical and horizontal connection kits allow this capability to be extended by linking two boards together. Many other options, including Type A (single-phase) boards, are also available.
