This excellent .PDF document (246kB file size) from Fluke looks at electrical installation testing in some detail (despite the ‘basic’ in the title), starting with the essential requirements of the relevant IEC, and going through all required tests.

Fluke also has available a choice of three rugged Electricians Kits which provide a complete solution to all installation test requirements, such as those for Part P - including an installation tester, a two-pole tester and a socket tester, each kit offers a 10% cash saving.

The Fluke comprises a 1651 multifunction tester (which was specially designed to test all the requirements in the latest Part P Building Regulations with one single piece of equipment, and which uses a patented advanced loop measurement technology to prevent electronic and passive type RCDs from tripping during earth-loop testing); a T100 two-pole voltage and continuity tester, which features an array of LEDs to indicate AC or DC voltage levels from 12V to 690V, and a patented three-phase rotation detection system; and the latest SM100 socket tester, with three vivid bi-colour LEDs which indicate missing earth, live/earth reverse, live/neutral reverse, missing neutral or live faults.

The Fluke 1652/PKit comprises a 1652 multifunction tester (which tests all the requirements of Part P and offers automatic RCD testing and a remote probe); a T120 two-pole tester, which features a 1999 digit LCD display and LED bargraph to indicate voltages from 12V to 690V AC/DC, a patented three-phase rotation detection system, and the latest SM200 socket tester. The latter has a similar design to the SM100 but includes a buzzer which changes sound in the event of a fault being detected.

The Fluke 1653/PKit comprises a 1653 multifunction tester (which has additional functionality to the 1652, enabling advanced uploading of stored results to a PC for software analysis and providing earth resistance and phase sequence measurement), a T140 two-pole voltage and continuity tester (similar to the T120 but also measuring resistance and incorporating a backlight in the LCD display), and the latest SM300 socket tester, which is similar to the SM200 but also offers 30mA RCD checking.
