HPL 4 Pro sets new standards for mercury lighting

Philips Lighting announces the launch of HPL 4 Pro – a brand new range with performance that outclasses any competitive mercury lamp on the market, and shows considerable reductions in maintenance costs.

A direct retrofit for HPL 50W, 80W and 125W ratings, HPL 4 Pro gives more light, improved colour rendering, longer service life and is available in a choice of colours – white (3400K) and cool white (4200K). HPL lamps were the first HID lamps to combine compactness with white light, and still provide the lowest relamping investment and lowest lamp system cost in professional outdoor lighting, particularly in residential areas.

HPL 4 Pro goes further to give the best of both worlds – more light of better quality AND a significant reduction in ownership costs, compared with conventional HPL. HPL 4 Pro cuts ownership costs. The service life is extended from 2-3 years to 4 years to lengthen relamping cycles, cutting relamping maintenance costs significantly. Zero spot failure incidence increases from around 2,000 hours to no less than 6,000 hours, virtually eliminating the high transport and labour costs of spotting individual lamp failures and making the lamp particularly suitable for money-saving group replacement schemes.

In addition, technical improvements guarantee fast, reliable ignition. HPL 4 Pro improves safety and amenity. Efficacy is increased from 50 to 55 lumens per watt, compared with conventional HPL lamps, to give 10% more light for the same energy consumption. At the same time, the colour rendering index is raised from Ra=50 to Ra=60 for improved visual amenity. Because HPL 4 Pro is a direct retrofit for conventional mercury lamps of appropriate rating, all these benefits are obtained without extra installation costs, simply by specifying the new range at the next group relamping cycle.
