He said: "I am delighted to have been invited to Chair the judging panel for this year's Awards, which recognise the best of building and civil engineering in the UK and overseas from the most modest size to major schemes. Government - at national and local level - is the construction industry's largest client and the Prime Minister's personal support for the 'Better Public Buildings' initiative shows a determination to ensure high standards of quality and design. The fact that BCIA is the chosen home for the Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award demonstrates its status as the UK's most prestigious Industry Award scheme.

The judging criteria for all categories of the Awards focus on all-round excellence in the delivery of projects and client satisfaction and the judges' task will be as demanding this year as ever with the usual fascinating mix of building and civil engineering projects of all sizes to consider. I have very great pleasure in encouraging clients, designers, contractors and others to submit projects of which they are proud for the Awards, whatever their size."
