Time, Money and Labour Savings are electric in Bristol

Savings on time, labour and materials were not to be sniffed at for electrical contractors DAF when they started using the Pulsa 700E cordless nailer from ITW Construction Products on a major project in Bristol. DAF are using the ITW Pulsa nailers for a wide variety of common fixings tasks around the Bedminster Parade site and estimate that the tools are making time savings of up to 200% over traditional drill and screw techniques.

Cheltenham-based DAF Electrical Contractors are working for m&e contractor Lorne Stewart on the major redevelopment of the Bedminster Parade site installing lighting, power and fire alarm systems. Main contractor Kier Western is spearheading redevelopment of this Grade II listed building which will become offices, an art gallery, and residential apartments as well as a state-of-the-art library which was the building’s original function.

DAF had previously used a competitors cordless nailer but were impressed both with the Pulsa 700E’s performance, ease of use and the fact that it has been designed with a wide range of fixings and accessories specifically for the electrical trade. A particular bonus of the Pulsa 700E is its ergonomic in-built balance which makes it easier and less-strenuous to use – especially on the overhead work which is so common in the electrical trade. The contractor has now switched to using the Pulsa 700E for a wide variety of general fixings tasks including fastening cable ties and all-round band to bison beams.

“The time savings we have achieved using the Pulsa 700E cordless nailer have been quite amazing,” comments DAF’s site supervisor at Bedminster Parade, Julion Rising. “Fixings clips along a twenty metre corridor would have taken us a couple of days if we were drilling and screwing. That takes us less than half a day using the Pulsa tool. That’s not to mention the savings we have made on materials because the Pulsa 700E has a range of consumables – clips, nails and the like – that are designed exclusively for electrical work so they work out much more cost effectively.” These fixings and clips have been designed to make demounting and dismantling quicker and easier than ever before – an important factor in multi-use developments like Bedminster Parade.

“We have purchased a number of the tools now and the guys on site love them – especially for overhead work because they are so light and well-balanced,” Julion continues. “In fact, one of ITW’s competitors has come on site and offered to swap the Pulsa tools with theirs – and we’ve said no. We’re not letting our Pulsas go!” ITW has also offered DAF a full on-site training programme to allow its team to work safely and efficiently with the Pulsa nailers.

Specifically aimed at electrical contractors, the Pulsa 700E from ITW will tackle a wide variety of jobs around site but is particularly suited to fixing cables, conduits and cappings and offers time savings of around 50% on cable installation, plus considerable additional savings on consumables such as drill bits.

The new Pulsa 700E is bristling with new features to make electrical installation work quicker, faster and with fewer interruptions. Its powerful motor drives 15mm-40mm pins and has a magazine capacity of 23 pins with a 3-pin lock out.  Each fuel cell will fire up to 650 pins allowing a 150-pin wastage factor. The new battery design has a 1-hour charge time and will fire approximately 1,000 pins before needing a recharge.  A new intermediate storage position stops the battery falling out of the tool or discharging when not in use; a highly popular feature in recent tool trials.

The lightest and best balanced cordless gas fixing tool available, the Pulsa 700E is effortless to use and has low vibration levels meaning it can be used all day long without the need for risk assessment. It is also quieter in operation than traditional fixing methods, making it ideal for use in occupied buildings. Because the system is completely cordless, it can be used on projects where no power is available and there are no trailing lines or wires to create a tripping hazard.

ITW is a multi-national corporation operating in over 30 countries worldwide. As one of Europe's leading manufacturers of anchors, cartridge tool systems, and drilling equipment, ITW Construction Products offers the construction industry and allied trades a range of products specifically aimed at the professional user.
