Glasgow-based LCH Generators has declared itself to be the World's first generator hire company to achieve certification to three internationally recognised management standards:

LCH Generators was assessed to ISO9001 quality management standard in 1995 and also the company was accredited to ISO9002 the same year. Subsequently this was updated to meet the ISO9001:2000 requirement five years later.

"We decided then that we should go for two other international standards at the same time", says company finance director James Pirrie (seen in the picture on the right with MD John Pirrie, centre, and operations director David Bell, left). Consequently, LCH Generators now has IS014001 environmental management and, most recently, OSHAS18001 occupational health and safety management certification.

Each of the three certificates recognises that LCH has in place dedicated systems to ensure these three aspects of its business are controlled and managed effectively.

High quality of service:

The company has developed its own intranet-based integrated management system to pull together the requirements of these particular standards within the operation of its business. It operates a hire fleet of 1,900 generators and accessories such as fuel tanks, cables and distribution boards. Working out of depots in London, Glasgow, Coventry, Wigan and Portsmouth (with an agent in Aberdeen), the company provides a full range of support services, from fuel management and 24 hour emergency call-out, to maintenance and repair of customers' own generators.

Accreditation to these three management standards is an expression of the company's culture, says James Pirrie: "They really embody everything we want to do in the business. We aim for a very high quality in the service we provide and we have always made health, safety and the environment top priorities."
