Successful testing of Pirelli’s FP200® Gold cable, in conjunction with Gent’s Vigilon addressable fire alarm system, ensures specification in Vodafone’s new world headquarters in Newbury. 2 Nov 2002
Project consultants Cundall Johnston and Partners, who designed and specified the fire alarm system for Vodafone’s new buildings, initially called for MICC cabling for use with Gent’s Vigilion fire alarm system because of doubts over the operational performance of non-MICC types. But T. Clarke, the main Electrical Contractor for the Vodafone project, recommended Pirelli’s FP200® Gold cable.
Ellis John, Project Manager at T. Clarke comments, "We knew that we could bring cost savings of around 20% to our client, because of the speed with which this cabling can be installed as well as its lower price. All that remained was to convince the project team that Pirelli’s cable had the ability to maintain maximum operational effectiveness of this state-of-the-art fire alarm system."
Pirelli arranged for stringent testing to be undertaken in conjunction with the proposed Gent products, under the fire test conditions required by BS 6387 categories C, W and Z. These tests, which constantly monitored the fire alarm loop, were witnessed by representatives from Gent Services, Cundall Johnston & Partners and T. Clarke. The successful results proved FP200® Gold to be the most effective cabling solution for the project and 50km were specified.
