Richard Simmonds visited Philips Lighting at its Ashford site to talk about lighting controls, internal reorganisation and advising its customersIn 1999, Philips Lighting bought the UK's leading manufacturer of lighting control equipment, ECS, from Whitecroft. Last September, it moved the business from its Feltham site near Heathrow Airport to the altogether more pleasant surroundings of Ashford in Middlesex. These events coincided with a shake-up at Philips Lighting. The company which was previously organised into divisions selling different products such as lamps, luminaires and controls was being restructured. One of the outcomes of this restructuring was the emergence of the Lighting Solutions business.
