System Guarantee comprises
Component, Link and
Channel Guarantees to provide end-users with the correct choice of cover for their installation. The guarantees are based on the requirements of BS6701 and promise specific transmission performance based upon quality assured installation, and operational and maintenance practices.
The guarantees are designed to allow customers a degree of choice in their products since they do not automatically lock customers into the future purchase of cable assemblies from Merlin Gerin. Customers can purchase cable assemblies on the open market, although such cables have to be standards-compliant and must meet specific requirements to guarantee network support.

BS 6701 clarifies the responsibilities for the installation of telecommunications equipment between the installer and telecommunications systems owner but makes the owner responsible for operating and maintaining the equipment and cabling.
Under BS6701 installers are required to provide detailed operating instructions for telecommunications cabling as part of a hand-over process. This information includes the type of cable, segregation distances and the selection of optical fibre connecting hardware.
