Schneider Electric has won a £205,000 contract to supply variable speed drives (VSDs), transformers and ring main units to KMI Water for the development of the St Helen's wastewater treatment plant on Merseyside:

Schneider Electric will supply 15 Telemecanique Altivar VSDs, ranging from 29 to 315 kW, for blower and feed pump applications. The contract includes three Merlin Gerin 800 kVA and three 1,000 kVA transformers along with three Merlin Gerin RN2 ring main units. Schneider Electric provides the solutions through its three global brands - Merlin Gerin, Square D, and Telemecanique.
The St Helens wastewater treatment plant will serve a population of some 138,000 people and is designed to treat 127 million litres of sewage a day. The sewage flow will be treated in two streams and the treated final effluent is discharged into the Sankey Brook. The variable speed drives in each motor control centre are fitted with active harmonic filters.
The plant is scheduled to enter service in March 2005.
KMI Water is developing the St Helen's plant as part of a £245 million project from United Utilities to rejuvenate the water industry infrastructure throughout west Lancashire and north Manchester. Schneider Electric won a contract, against stiff competition, to become the sole supplier of variable speed drives to United Utilities for a term of three years.
