MITA has supplied customised brass-edged floor boxes to Glasgow City Council's Mitchell Library, one of the biggest public reference libraries in Europe:

Located in the City's Charing Cross district, this large building is currently undergoing a major refurbishment. The installation clearly demonstrates MITA's expertise in special projects.

Twenty-four of the custom floor boxes, adapted from MITA's Thorsman range, are being set into the Main Hall's oak parquet floor - which has now been transformed into a new exhibition space. The brass edging has been chosen to visually complement this highly attractive feature. Once installed, the floor boxes will carry the Hall's segregated power, Cat 5e data and communications cables.

More to come:

Later phases in this refurbishment project will require the provision of underfloor track systems - also specially made by MITA. The architects are within Glasgow City Council and the M & E consultants are Davey & McCullogh.

The Library, completed in 1911, is an Edwardian Baroque building boasting a fine marble and stone staircase and huge reading rooms full of elaborate joinery and plasterwork. The building also houses the City's archives and Arts Department.
