The Mita trunking was surface mounted on walls in wards and corridors throughout the infirmary, the core of which dates back to 1868. With a cross-section of 50mm x 75mm, the trunking contains three cabling networks: single phase 240V AC power, coaxial RF cabling for video, and structured cabling for voice and data communications.

The installation of telephone and screen-based entertainment was recommended in the government's NHS Plan, published in 2000 and Patientline supplies bedside services under a license from the NHS.

Mita's aluminium feeder trunking was selected following trials. BLS contractors and Leeds NHS Trust concluded it was the best solution to contain and protect the cables to provide the bedside services. It met the NHS Trust's requirements that the cable containment equipment was quick to install without disrupting hospital routine and easily cleaned to maintain hygiene, while having low smoke, zero halogen performance.
