Andrew White asks about the phase-in period for the new Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) and why he can’t seem to obtain EICR pads. His question is answered by SELECT (Theme – Regulations & Legilsation):

Question: My understanding is that the phase-in phase-out period of Periodic Inspection Reports (PIRs) and Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) was June 11th - January 12th, but I have noted that no one is producing or selling the new EICR pads or test sheets.

Yes, I know you can obtain an electronic copy, but it has been said that the old PIR can be used up to June 12th.

Is this correct and why is the documentation not ready if 1st of January was the actual legal date?

No one seems to want to commit to comment on this. Why?

Answer: The new Electrical Installation Condition Report was introduced in the latest amendment to BS 7671:2008 in July 2011. Like most amendments there is normally a six month lead in period. The new report should be used from 1st January 2012.

All trade associations and consumer protection bodies will now have the report in the new format.
