Vent-Axia has helped a family by supplying ventilation to their two-bedroom home in Conwy. The company provided its innovative single room heat recovery solution, the Lo-Carbon™ Tempra, to the Conwy property shown on the BBC One series 'DIY SOS: The Big Build' as part of a life changing transformation to the family’s home.

Set in a beautiful village in the Welsh countryside the Conwy new build family home was an uninhabitable shell with a widower and his eight year old daughter forced to live in a nearby dilapidated caravan for six years. The father started building the house for his daughter and wife but work stopped through illness and loss as his wife died of cancer followed by the father later diagnosed with cancer too.

This project sought to create a home for the family which was a warm, dry, comfortable and healthy place to live as well as being energy efficient. Vent-Axia’s Tempra was installed in the wet rooms in the house to provide effective ventilation with up to 80% of heat recovered from the extracted air, retained in the unit and used to warm incoming fresh air.

The Conwy home’s kitchen was fitted with a Tempra P which offers constant trickle ventilation and features a pullcord to boost airflow. Meanwhile, each bathroom was fitted with Tempra T which also provides constant trickle speed ventilation but features a switch live to boost airflow, as well as an adjustable 5-50 min overrun timer with optional 3 minute delay on timer.

All Tempra models can be set to run continuously at 6 l/s or 9 l/s, boosting up to 13 l/s if required. For intermittent extract applications, the unit can be set to operate at 15 l/s. The Tempra also incorporates a manual summer setting to ensure that when it is warm outside, it operates on extract only. This eliminates the risk of the home overheating in hot summer weather. Meanwhile, the Tempra H version comes with built-in humidistat.

Complying with Building Regulations Part F for intermittent extract fans and whole house ventilation systems (depending on its application), the Tempra is discreet and quiet in operation. Ideal for both new build and retrofit projects the Tempra is also easy to install. In refurbishments the Tempra easily replaces existing traditional 100mm fans since it can be simply fitted through the existing 100mm diameter hole without the need to make a larger installation hole, thus saving on time and cost.

Tempra is part of the Vent-Axia Lo-Carbon™ collection of energy saving ventilation solutions. The aim of the Lo-Carbon™ initiative is to offer the latest low carbon ventilation technology to reduce building energy consumption and carbon emissions.
