Q & A of the Day – At what point in this circuit should I do PSCC / PFC tests?

This Question of the Day concerns a large electrical installation, plus prospective short circuit current (PSCC) and power factor correction (PFC) testing. It has been answered by the ECA:

Question: I'm currently testing a large electrical installation that has an LV panel feeding ten air-handling units (AHUs) and a number of distribution boards. I understand that a prospective short circuit current (PSCC) test and a PFC test must be carried out at the origin and have completed these tests.

The problem I have is where else do I carry out the PSCC and PFC, and where would I record the results?

Am I right in saying that the tests in question should only be carried out again at the distribution boards, or would I need to find the values at the AHUs also?

If the main LV panel in question is thought of as a distribution board, surely the circuits feeding the AHUs will be similar to those from a distribution board?

Answer: The PSCC should be recorded at every switchgear/distribution location and recorded on the schedule of test results. The PFC is normally checked at the main intake, but can also be checked at the MCC and at main plant locations, and recorded on respective documentation.
