Question: In the installation I’m working on, PVC cables running through, and in contact with, polystyrene insulation need to be run in conduit - can this be PVC conduit?
Answer: Expanded polystyrene is known to have an effect on thermoplastic insulated cables, caused by the softening of the cables insulation by chemicals in the polystyrene insulation. The same sort of degradation is possible with other thermoplastic materials.
Therefore, checks will have to be made with manufacturer of the PVC conduit.
