Question: When changing a fuseboard, I understand that the tails must be increased in size. In terms of the earthing (also including the main bonding), the main earthing conductor will be increased to 16mm as the tails will need to be 25mm.

The question is - do I need to inform the supply company, and ask it to come and change the tails? The reason I ask this is because I'm not legally allowed to cut the seals and see no reason to upgrade the size of the tails from the meter to the consumer unit if the tails from the main fuse to meter are going to remain 16mm.

Answer: As you indicate, meter tails will normally be increased to 25mm2 and the main earthing conductor to 16mm2. To be able to do this, some contact with the supply company or distributor will be necessary to break seals, and/or to install a switch disconnector.
