Question: I have been asked to supply 'After Diversity Power Requirements' to my local electrical supplier. I am not an electrician, so I have no idea what this is. Worse, my supplier needs a breakdown of the proposed load, but this cannot be carried out as the building has not yet been designed.
All I know is that it will be a 48-bed residential home with additional shared components that you would find in any hospital or nursing home - such as reception, stores, kitchen, staff offices etc.
What is the best way to approach this?
Answer: Before your electrical distributor can provide you with a supply it needs to know what the kVA power requirements of your establishment is. When calculating kVA, 'diversity' may be taken into account for certain circuits.
You will need to contact your electrical contractor to ascertain what your power diversity requirements will be following the design of the electrical installation. The contractor should be able to provide you with the information required by the distributors.
