Question: Why does a transformer have its rating specified in kVA, while a generator is specified in kW?

Answer: In fact, both transformers and generators should have both kVA and kW ratings available. The kW rating is the unit of the power output, and kVA is normally the maximum demand, taking into account power factor and inductance.
