Question: When connecting an emergency lighting test switch, should this switch also remove the supply to the adjacent light switch (emergency light now on the other mains - lights 'OFF')?

Or should the emergency test switch (when 'OFF') only remove the supply to the emergency fitting, leaving the main lights still 'ON'.

Answer: The emergency test switch should effectively remove the maintained supply to the emergency luminaire (to mimic the loss of supply). This will switch the emergency luminaires to emergency operation only.

There is NO requirement to switch the non-emergency luminaires during the test. If lighting checks are required, the mains versions can be switched off in the normal way.
