Question: Can you please advise me about the following lighting product - a 4ft long twin bare batten with low power factor. The product reference is: LP236LPF.
As I'm currently working on a accommodation block twin rooms having a ceiling height of around 8 feet (2.4m), I'm a bit worried about the safety factor of these fittings to be mounted in a sleeping quarters without the lighting diffuser fitted.
Can you please tell me about any health and safety aspects in the UK for lighting fittings without the diffusers fitted? Does it comply with the health and safety regulations?
Any help would be much appreciated as - if not safe - we will order the diffuser kit.
Answer: There are no direct health and safety issues with a luminaire with an exposed lamp in this environment.
The issue is one of comfort to the people using the accommodation, as bright images provided by the exposed lamp possibly causing discomfort.
The addition of a diffuser will, however, reduce the lighting level, though this would be unlikely to be a problem in this case. Even so, it would be worth checking that the light level reduction of around 15% will present no problem.
