An 80 per cent energy saving with no loss of brightness is achieved by a completely new range of recessed fixed and adjustable downlights just launched by Thorn.

Called ‘Lightstream 2’, the new luminaires are boxed complete with either a mains voltage GU10 LED or CFL reflector lamp in lower wattage ratings than their conventional halogen equivalents, i.e. 6, 8.5 dimmable and 9W instead of 35-50W.

A further advantage of Lightstream 2 is that its higher efficiency goes hand in hand with fire safety. Use of intumescent material ensures that fire rated versions can be used with 30, 60 and 90 minute fire-rated ceilings. Users requiring the twin advantages of quick paybacks (typically less than one year versus 50W halogen) and peace of mind can therefore obtain enormous advantages from Lightstream 2.

There are warm or cool light options too, plus IP65 ratings for bathrooms and a choice of bezel finish: white, satin nickel or chrome.

The downlights are designed to be especially effective in entrances, lobbies and corridors, where there are long burning hours; and provision is made for LED emergency luminaires to be added to the scheme.
