Dimplex Renewables has welcomed the announcement of the payments, which provide one-off payments of up to £1250 (dependent on technology) to householders wanting to go green by installing solar thermal water heating, ground or air source heat pumps, or biomass boilers. “The introduction of the RHPP is a positive and important step towards supporting the takeup of renewable heating in the UK domestic sector,” says Chris Davis, business development director for Dimplex Renewables. “Dimplex has invested heavily in UK manufacturing, plus having recently launched our new air source heat pump packages and with a number of new air source, ground source and solar thermal products due for launch in the next two months, the announcement could not have been better timed.” However, there are still many questions that need to be answered, Davis continues. “A one-off payment under the RHPP is obviously a key step towards helping householders meet the up-front capital and installation costs of renewable heating systems. “But until more is known about the eligibility criteria for the full domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme, due to start in October 2012, it’s uncertain whether the RHPP will give householders the confidence to opt for renewable heating, without the certainty of ongoing financial support.” The RHPP opens for applications on 1 August and will operate as a voucher-based system, similar to the recent boiler scrappage scheme. £15m will be available to support up to 25,000 installations in England, Wales and Scotland, before the scheme ends on 31 March 2012. Payments for air and ground source heat pumps and biomass boilers are limited to homes off the gas grid, but any home can apply for a payment towards solar thermal, subject to meeting basic energy efficiency requirements. Both equipment and installer must be MCS accredited to access the funding. Dimplex offers the UK’s widest range of heat pumps and has recently invested substantially in its UK R&D and manufacturing facility, developing ground and air source heat pumps designed specifically for high performance in the UK climate.
