Question: Is it necessary to earth the bronze handrails/steps to an indoor, reinforced concrete swimming pool?

Answer: BS 7671:2008 Regulation 702.415.2 (note change in regulation number in corrigendum July 2008) requires extraneous-conductive-parts in Zones 0, 1 and 2 to be connected by supplementary protective bonding conductors to exposed-conductive-parts of equipment in these zones.

IEE Guidance Note 8 (Earthing & Bonding) gives examples of parts which may typically fall within the definition of such extraneous-conductive-parts, and these would include metal handrails.
