This Q & A of the Day is one of thousands answered by our Voltimum Experts on a daily basis in our Technical Expertise area.

Question: My company, like others, distributes 110V products to the construction industry, where the normal voltage used during the construction of buildings for tools and lighting is 110V. Some lighting products use 110V GLS 60W lamps.

Can it be clarified whether the use of these voltage/wattage lamps will be outlawed under the EU directive covering the phasing out of low efficiency lamps?

Answer: Probably not!

The European Lamp Companies Federation includes within its interpretation of the exempt lamps: 'Rough service lamps includes 110V GLS and linear halogen for building sites'.

These will be required to be marked both as exempt and to what type of exemption they qualify for. As far as I can establish, these markings have not yet been decided upon.
