Organisations of every size and description are rapidly adopting outsourced software, platform and infrastructure solutions in order to drive efficiency up and costs down. Despite this, one area that is still overlooked is the impact that cloud computing has on IT infrastructures and, in particular, the unique power, cooling and availability challenges that cloud architectures present.
Entitled Optimising your Infrastructure for Cloud Computing, Eaton’s latest white paper on this topic looks at some of the forces behind the rising adoption of cloud-based solutions, explores how cloud architectures impact data centres and discusses a series of concrete practices and technologies that can help companies collect the benefits of cloud computing without compromising uptime or overwhelming their power and cooling systems.
The paper concludes that, in order to take advantage of the power of cloud computing reliably and cost-effectively, organisations should adopt technologies and techniques to increase the reliability and redundancy of their physical and virtual environments, including their power and cooling systems. It also recommends that proper monitoring and control of physical and virtual systems will help organisations manage their infrastructure more easily.
