More than 7,000 metres of Prysmian’s 1.5mm˛, 2 core red FP200 Gold® fire resistant cable is now installed at the recently opened new terminal building for Portsmouth International Port.
FP200 Gold® is being used for the public address and voice alarm (PAVA) system throughout the 2,700 square metre facility. Passengers leave for destinations in France, Spain and the Channel Islands with more than 170 services departing and arriving every week.
Senior Project Manager, Bob Fletcher, at Lorne Stewart headed up the fire resistant cable installation. He said: “We use FP200 Gold® a lot as it is of high quality, comes with required BASEC and LPCB approvals and is easy to install. This was an important job for us and FP200 Gold® ticked all the boxes.”
Of course, in the event of fire automated and manual emergency evacuation announcements need be made over the PAVA system. Therefore, the cable used in this equipment must meet necessary standards and reduce the risk of harm to people evacuating.
The terminal is designed to accommodate 2,400 passengers and replaces the original, built in 1976. Portsmouth City Council gave approval in 2008 for the new building to be constructed. From the outset, the scheme was designed to have a reduced environmental impact and include a host of ‘green technologies’. It opened officially in May this year.
