Question: I've recently designed a new lighting scheme for a client in which we have proposed fitting T5 luminaires c/w electronic ballasts to replace T12 luminaires c/w switch start ballasts.
In order to advise the client of the likely energy savings, we are looking to carry out a simple calculation on the new lighting compared with the existing. However, we are unable to obtain information regarding losses through the T12 control gear.
Is it possible for you to give us guidance on this so that we can accurately advise the client of the likely energy savings accordingly?
Answer: The system wattage for a single 75W T12 lamp with magnetic gear should be approximately 91W.
