Question: Where a cable passes through an external wall, the hole is often sealed with flexible silicone sealant. Does silicone sealant have any detrimental affect on the cable insulation? If so, what is the recommended method of sealing such holes to comply with Part C of the Building Regulations (resistance to moisture)? Answer: We are not aware of any adverse long term or other effect of silicone sealant on the performance of PVC sheaths of this cable type. However, as there are many variants, we would suggest that you consult the manufacturer of the specific product you are using to be absolutely sure. We are not able to comment as to the recommended method of sealing the hole in compliance with the Building Regulations, as this is outside of our expertise.
