New back-up electricity generators for Milton Keynes Hospital have now been delivered as part of a £2.2 million investment from Milton Keynes Partnership (MKP)
MKP has provided the money to Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust via the Milton Keynes Infrastructure Tariff in order to help the hospital develop essential infrastructure on site in order to support the expansion of healthcare facilities in line with the growth of the city.
Tim Roxburgh, Director of Milton Keynes Partnership said, “As Milton Keynes grows it is essential that the hospital and health care facilities grow alongside. These new generators will ensure the hospital’s electricity infrastructure has sufficient capability and reliability for years to come.”
Bob Heavisides, Director of Facilities at Milton Keynes Hospital, said: “We are delighted to receive this funding from Milton Keynes Partnership. The hospital has expanded rapidly since it first opened in 1984, and this funding will support further growth to enable us to further develop our services to meet the needs of local people.”
Work on the generators is expected to be complete by spring 2011. Tariff funding has already contributed to work on the hospital’s road network providing better access and parking for patients and visitors.
Work to develop the hospital’s infrastructure is one of the Acute Healthcare Priorities identified by MK Council, the hospital and MKP in the Milton Keynes Local Investment Plan.
The Milton Keynes Infrastructure Tariff was developed by MKP in 2005 and charges a set tariff on all property developments within the expansion areas of the city; typically a developer will pay £18,500 to MKP for each new house or around £67 for every square metre of commercial floor space. The money is then used for investment in the infrastructure of the city including transport, hospitals, schools and community spaces.
