Climate change minister Greg Barker is to provide the keynote address at the UK's first conference on retrofitting existing housing stock.
He will speak to industry professionals including builders, contractors and businesses at the event held on January 26th and 27th.
Chief scientific advisor to the Department for Communities and Local Government Professor Michael Kelly will also speak at the event.
Discussions will focus on the issues associated with retrofitting the UK's ageing housing stock and the development of new technologies to make homes zero carbon.
The conference at the University of Salford will also unveil the world's first Energy House, a conventional pre-1920s terrace house built under laboratory conditions and monitored for its domestic consumption.
Vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Martin Hall, commented: "This project is exciting because retro-fitting old properties to make them as carbon-efficient as possible will require detailed and robust research.
"If there is to be a step change in the UK to achieve our carbon emission reduction targets, it is essential decision-makers have sound evidence to ensure products are tested before being tried out in real homes."
