LAPD Consultants was tasked with breathing new life into the lighting scheme of Hobbs stores across the UK. The flagship shop in Covent Garden underwent renovation and the new design is inspired by a quintessentially English Country Manor House. Consequently, the new lighting scheme had to be in keeping with the interior features, but provide optimum illumination and be energy efficient.
Simon Thorp, Senior Lighting Designer at LAPD Consultants Ltd. says, “Hobbs was relying on us to design a high quality lighting scheme so we had to work with the best possible products. We wanted to include atmospheric up-lighting to the barrel vault ceilings, but could not use fluorescent tubes due to space restrictions. Consequently, we looked at LED modules and chose OSRAM’s LINEARlight Flex modules based on their cost and performance. As well as providing significant energy savings in comparison to more traditional lighting solutions, LINEARlight Flex modules inject the perfect light into the application and achieve the desired soft, warm and uniform lit effect.
LAPD Consultants installed OSRAM’s OPTOTRONIC® electronic control gear to operate the LINEARlight Flex modules. Specially designed for use with LED modules, the installation of this control gear ensures that Hobbs obtains the optimum performance from each product.
To guarantee that the LED modules achieve a high quality lighting effect, FineWHITE versions of the LINEARlight Flex modules were used. This eliminates the possibility of colour variations between each LED and guarantees high uniformity of light across the application.
State of the art LED modules are ideal for decorative effects, accent lighting and dynamic lighting applications. Thanks to the superior nature of LEDs including long lifetime and low power consumption, OSRAM’s LINEARlight Flex consumes very little energy and has a lifetime of up to 50,000 hours which significantly reduces maintenance costs.
