SSE has taken an important step forward with its commitment to make Glasgow its Centre of Engineering Excellence for Renewable Energy, by acquiring a new ‘grade A’ property at 1 Waterloo Street, Glasgow.

The new building will accommodate much of the work undertaken by SSE’s renewables business, which includes supporting the multi-billion-pound investment programme for onshore and offshore wind, hydro-electricity and wave and tidal energy. It will provide space for over 500 staff, meeting SSE’s current needs and proposed expansion plans.

Colin Hood, SSE’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “This deal represents good value for SSE and is an important step in helping us establish a real centre of engineering excellence for renewable energy, in Glasgow. It will mean we can bring our Glasgow-based renewables teams, which are currently based over two sites in the city centre, together in a single shared location. There is also an opportunity for our key supply chain partners to locate alongside us, providing greater opportunities for teamworking and efficiency."
