Energy efficient makeovers are to be offered to some of Britain's most vulnerable households.
British Gas has announced that it is to support up to 50,000 of the most "hard-pressed" homes to reduce their energy bills.
As well as having a financial benefit for the people involved, the energy company estimates that the scheme will cut around 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
Phil Bentley, managing director of the company, commented: "Improving energy efficiency in our homes is the quickest way to cut our bills and lower carbon emissions.
"And this initiative will particularly help our most vulnerable and hard-pressed families."
Insulation, electricity monitors and standby savers are among the energy saving products on offer.
The move comes as the Welsh Assembly Government has announced its plans to eradicate fuel poverty in homes in the country by 2018 as part of its target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by three per cent per year in areas of devolved competence.
