Question: I've recently come across the term 'ramp test'. I assume that this has something to do with RCD testing. What is a ramp test?

Answer: An RCD ramp test, as it sounds, is used to test the tripping current required to trip an RCD on a circuit by ramping up the fault current and displaying the tripping current reached.

The ramp test can be used to help fault find circuits for nuisance tripping - i.e. very low tripping currents would suggest leakage current on the circuit, or an overly sensitive RCD.
