Leading support services and construction company Carillion has achieved a top 10 ranking in the 2010 Sunday Times Best Green Companies awards.
The annual competition is held to recognise companies at the cutting edge of improving corporate environmental performance and this year Carillion secured eighth position.
The Best Green Companies is a robust methodology to measure environmental performance and includes a survey of employees to find out their views on the companies they work for.
In total, 27,000 employees from the companies participating in the awards process took part in the online survey, responding to statements that tested the commitment of both management and employees. A resounding 83 per cent of Carillion employees said that Carillion is a leader in its approach to environmental management.
Commenting on the award, Don Kenny, Carillion executive director with responsibility for sustainability said: “We are absolutely delighted that we ranked eighth in the Sunday Times Best Green Companies awards. We are extremely proud of all the work Carillion does for both the environment and communities through our sustainability programme.
“We couldn’t have done this without the hard work and dedication of all our people who collaboratively deliver on our sustainability commitments.”
