Support services and construction company Carillion has been appointed preferred bidder for the £27 million Trinity Academy Halifax.

Carillion has been selected by Calderdale Council acting as client on behalf of the Academy Trust along with co-sponsors the Diocese of Wakefield, Calderdale College and the University of Huddersfield, to design and construct the new Academy including the provision of ICT infrastructure.

Trinity Academy will provide places for 1,200 students plus 300 places for sixth form students, serving the communities of Ovenden, Mixenden and Illingworth in Halifax.

The Academy will include a range of renewable energy initiatives including a biomass boiler and solar thermal array and will achieve a very good BREEAM rating (Buildings Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method).

Rob Holt, Carillion Director for Education said: “We are delighted to have been selected as preferred bidder for Trinity Academy and look forward to working with the Borough Council of Calderdale and co-sponsors to create a state-of-the art learning environment for the people of Halifax.

“This latest contract success further consolidates Carillion’s position as one of the UK’s leading suppliers to the Government’s Academies programme.”
