The UK's eight leading engineering organisations today launch a downloadable document which summarises the key points of the recently published 'Engineering the future: shared vision for the future of UK engineering'.

The vision has been circulated to the major political parties' election manifesto writing teams and identifies the following key priorities for a thriving UK economy, based on engineering innovation that builds on our national strengths and addresses the grand challenges of the 21st century:

  • Sustaining and encouraging investment in skills for the future
  • Making the UK a leader in low carbon technology
  • Capitalising on the value of the UK science and engineering research base
  • Harnessing the power of public spending to encourage innovation
  • Making greater use of engineering advice in government policy making

The Engineering the future partners will be actively engaging with political parties in the lead up to the 2010 election to promote engineering. We are also pleased to offer a service whereby Fellows can obtain details of their constituency prospective parliamentary candidates should they wish to contact them to take the discussion forward. Fellows wishing to avail themselves of this service should email Tim Julier, Programme Manager at the Royal Academy, Email: Tim Julier

Both the flyer and the full vision document are available for Fellows and other interested persons at: http://www.raeng.org.uk/societygov/public_affairs/thefuture.htm
