The 120W high output T5 (T16) fluorescent lamp is an important new factor in the Thorn HiRack range of fittings, specially designed for warehouses.
The 1500mm linear fittings accommodate 4 x 120W lamps, giving a similar light output to a 400W metal halide lamp, thus offering a viable alternative for storage areas where discharge fittings have hitherto been the preferred choice.
They have the latest high frequency electronic gear to give instant flicker-free starting, save energy, prolong lamp life (20,000 hours) and automatically eliminate flashing when tubes start to fail. Twin ballasts, each operating two lamps, allows split switching, aside from the digital dimming and integral occupancy sensor possibilities. Another “plus” is that should a lamp fail there is only a 25 per cent reduction in illumination, whereas a discharge lamp failure represents a total outage.
Incorporated within the range are a number of features offering choice and flexibility, including high quality aluminium reflectors for racking or open areas, a 4-lamp 80W option, trunking kits and integral emergency lighting versions.
At 0.86 the light output ratio is superior to conventional fittings and the resulting efficiency factor of 59 luminaire-lumens per circuit watt goes far beyond the Building Regulations (Part L2A) requirement of 45 for industrial and storage area lighting.
Installation is quick and simple. A hinged lid on the back of the body gives direct access to the Isodom piano key terminal block without having to disassemble the product. The body is also slotted to allow an upward flow of air through the luminaire, thus minimising the accumulation of dust and reducing maintenance.
A further advantage of HiRack is that its high efficiency goes hand in hand with exceedingly good colour rendering, an important consideration for accurate picking.
