Power Systems’ Traction unit has recently completed the first phase of the installation and changeover of the new DC switchboard at Earls Court Substation.

Earls Court is a very complex site due to its location at one of London Underground’s busiest junctions, and its proximity to the exhibition centre.

Project engineer Stewart Marshall has worked tirelessly to engineer the delivery and installation of this switchboard in a limited space without causing any impact to the operational railway.

Commissioning engineer Bryan McInally has worked through the night on changeovers to ensure the complex interfaces with the existing 1960s equipment function correctly allowing trains to run on time each morning.

Power Systems’ Traction unit is now in the process of decommissioning a section of the existing switchgear to create sufficient space to install Phase 2 of this intricate project.
