NG Bailey's NHS agreement is just the tonic

NG Bailey & Co is set to play a major part in the renewal of the National Health Service following the announcement of the dozen principal supply chain partners (PSCPs) for its ProCure 21 programme:

Of the list drawn up by NHS Estates, NG Bailey & Co is formally working in partnership with six - with the prospect of work from another two - giving it the potential to be the UK's leading expert in this field.

The company's Special Projects division will coordinate the requirements of the ProCure 21 programme. Its purpose is to deliver better quality healthcare buildings and improved value for money by invoking a major culture change similar to that set out in Sir John Egan's Rethinking Construction.

The PSCPs with which NG Bailey has partnership arrangements are:

  • ACM Healthcare, which comprises Amec, Costain and Mowlem.
  • Balfour Beatty - with M J Gleeson Group Plc, Morrisons Construction Ltd.
  • HBG Construction.
  • Medicinq - Bowmer & Kirkland, Geoffrey Osborne Ltd, Midas.
  • Construction Ltd, Simons Construction Ltd.
  • Integrated Health Projects - Norwest Holst and Sir Robert McAlpine.
  • Taylor Woodrow with M J Gleeson Group Plc.

A great opportunity:

A team from the company's Manchester branch is already working on a pilot project at the Ormskirk Hospital in Lancashire, with ACM Healthcare. NHS ProCure 21 has four strands - raising design quality, strengthening the performance of the NHS as a client, benchmarking to improve standards and introducing partnering frameworks and integrated supply chain management to the NHS.

Special Projects director Andy Gains said: "This is a great opportunity to further enhance the reputation of NG Bailey as a partner of choice. We now have the opportunity to bring our experience in design, benchmarking and integrated supply chain management to the table."

The NHS ProCure 21 partnering programme builds on best practice in the private sector. By identifying a limited number of supply chains through its 12 PSCPs to meet the NHS's requirements, it aims to deliver:

  • Greater value for money - through longer-term relationships with the private sector.
  • More speed - the framework approach meets EU procurement law, so NHS organisations can select a partner without the need for formal tenders with multiple potential suppliers.
  • Better quality - experienced supply chains include leading firms in health planning, design, construction, who better understand the NHS's needs and who can share lessons across all schemes.

Gains added: "Our experience in re-engineering work particularly at the start of projects while working within strict budgetary controls will stand us in good stead and we are poised to become the major integrated building services contractor behind the rejuvenation of the NHS."
