Support services and construction company Carillion has joined forces with The Prince’s Trust to give young people the opportunity to try their hand at working in the construction industry.
The Prince’s Trust ‘Get into’ programme aims to give people aged 16 to 25 who are unemployed, the chance to train and get work experience in a variety of industries including construction.
For the past two weeks Carillion has hosted a ‘Get into’ Construction course at The Bulwell Academy site, where 12 young people from the local area have received tuition in bricklaying and paving as well as finding out more about the construction industry through site tours and presentations.
Carillion is currently constructing The Bulwell Academy as part of Nottingham City Council’s Academies Programme, a £100 million investment from the Department for Children, Schools and Families. Nottingham City Council is continuing to transform learning in the city through a number of capital build programmes, including the Building Schools for the Future programme and the Primary Capital Programme.
On Friday (February 26) those who have completed the ‘Get into’ course will be presented with a certificate by Michael Rowen, High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire and former County Chairman of The Prince’s Trust and Chair of the Governing Body of Nottingham University Samworth Academy.
Alice Vickers, Carillion Community Regeneration Manager at Nottingham said: “We have been delighted to join forces with The Prince’s Trust and our training company Carillion Training Services, to give these young people the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience of the construction industry and learn new skills which will hopefully boost their confidence and give them the chance of employment or further training.”
