Specifically designed for projects involved in the Government’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, Xpelair’s new Classmate solution is a state-of-the-art mixed-mode ventilation system which controls the learning environment by automatically reacting to CO2 levels, room occupancies and seasonal and daytime temperatures to maintain optimum indoor air quality.

Operated via a combination of CO2, temperature and time controls, Classmate features industry leading acoustic performance, minimises energy input and reduces carbon emissions by use of passive ventilation only for CO2 control.  Summer cooling ventilation is provided by low energy EC fans and heating by LTHW coils and controls.

Control panels allow users to select appropriate ventilation options for each individual classroom.  As a result, lower carbon emissions can reduce the school’s energy costs by up to 40% compared with conventional systems.

Steve Mongan, Head of Marketing at Xpelair, comments: “Ultimately, BSF is about creating an environment where pupils can learn and perform better in an environmentally friendly way.

With buildings becoming more airtight, ventilation is a serious issue to ensure a clean, fresh and healthy indoor air quality, particularly with the increased use of IT equipment and the amount of glazing used in new schools for natural light.

Classmate takes school ventilation onto the next level. Modulating controls allow end-users to fully control the airflow passively or make-up air for mechanical ventilation.  This provides both occupant ventilation and free cooling, thus reducing the energy consumption of a building.  In addition, low energy natural ventilation has been proven to improve performance of those within a building, which is vital for pupils and staff.”

Designed for installation into external and internal walls or cladding, Xpelair’s Classmate exceeds the requirements of Building Bulletins 93 and 101.  Up to six units can be managed from one controller to allow timed function, night cooling function, temperature differential sensing and manual override.  To complement this, the units are delivered assembled, pre-wired and ready to connect to save installation time and money.

Other key features include acoustic modules included as standard to reduce noise and light transmission, and all units come with telescopic wall sleeves to suit various wall thicknesses.
