Question: Why can't I use an RCD in a TN-C earthing system?
Answer: In TN-C (and IT) networks, residual current devices (RCDs) are far less likely to detect an insulation fault. In a TN-C system they would also be very vulnerable to unwanted triggering from contact between earths of circuits on different RCDs or with real ground, so making their use impractical.
