Stop the counterfeit cables says Prysmian

As a victim of counterfeit cables Prysmian is urging the industry to take action....
Prysmian has condemned the counterfeit trade in electrical supplies and urged electrical manufacturers to come together to discuss the problem and look to put preventative measures in place to halt the manufacture and distribution of illegal and potentially fatal counterfeit goods.
In recent years, we have had instances of counterfeit Prysmian cables appearing in Middle Eastern markets. We have recently been a victim of counterfeiters again when fake samples of flat twin and earth cable (Product 6242Y) appeared in an overseas market.
Prysmian managed to obtain samples of this cable and its Quality Assurance team, conducted tests that proved conclusively that the cable was not safe to use and did not conform to current safety standards. A probable source for the counterfeit product has been identified and investigations are continuing.
The images show examples of this latest counterfeit cable and packaging. In this case the cable was branded 'Firelle', clearly a play on the Prysmian brand. We would like to remind all people in the industry to contact Prysmian immediately on: 023 8029 5029 if they believe they have been offered or supplied counterfeit goods or hear anything on the industry grapevine.
