Support services and construction company Carillion is celebrating after its Chief Engineer and sustainability expert was recently officially awarded a CBE by Prince Charles.
Quentin, who lives in Bridgnorth and has worked for Wolverhampton based Carillion for more than 18 years was awarded the honour for services to the sustainability agenda and civil engineering.
Quentin who is responsible for pioneering and leading Carillion’s sustainability programme has over 30 years experience in both operational management and technical roles in the construction industry graduated in civil engineering in 1975 from Glasgow University, has an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering, and is a chartered civil engineer and a chartered environmentalist.
Since 2000 Quentin has also been responsible for environmental issues and he initiated and led Carillion’s coveted sustainability strategy and corporate responsibility programme. This programme was recognised nationally by Business in the Community, who awarded Carillion their Impact on Society Award and named them as their Company of the Year in 2003.
Most recently Quentin spent a year as President of the Institution of Civil Engineering (ICE) and was the first editor and chair of the ICE Proceedings Engineering Sustainability journal. Since 1998, Quentin has been a Visiting Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Edinburgh, where he is involved in both teaching and research and is chairman of the School Advisory Board. He has also served on the civil engineering Advisory Boards of Nottingham, Southampton and City Universities. He is a regular lecturer and speaker at universities and conferences including the joint Institute of Management/University of Wolverhampton Business Schools annual Crystal Lecture.
And he has been a judge for the Science, Engineering and Technology Student of the Year Award since the award inception in 1997.
Quentin said: “It was a fabulous day and a great honour to be presented with the CBE by Prince Charles who is a great supporter and advocate for the sustainability agenda.”
