Question: We are currently fitting out a building where we already have lighting and power services recently installed, which is connected to the main LV system served by the REC LV supply. There is a second REC incoming LV electrical supply that enters the opposite end of the building that is still live.

Is it possible to use this second supply to serve the new air-conditioning system we are putting in?

Is it just the case of labelling both supplies and the sub-distribution boards in the areas being air-conditioned, together with linking the earthing systems. I'm not aware of anything in the regulations that may stop us considering this.

Answer: It is possible to have two supplies serving a building, subject to the installation being in accordance with BS 7671 and the local DNO requirements.

Proper labelling is indeed what's needed. A notice at the origin stating the location of the other supply is also a good idea.
