Question: Please can anyone help me in terms of positioning electrical fittings according to standards during fresh installation of buildings, as well as a cost analysis?

Answer: In England and Wales, Part M of the Building Regulations gives the requirements for the positioning of wiring accessories, such as light switches and socket outlets, so that they can be used by people whose reach is limited.

In Scotland, guidance on compliance with Scottish Building Standards for their positioning is likewise provided in the SBS Technical Handbooks, although the requirements differ slightly from those in Part M.

The designer of the installation will need to position the electrical fittings on a drawing. The minimum number of fittings will depend on the standards applicable in that country - so some contact with relevant Building Standards would be beneficial.

Any requirements that may exist in countries outside the UK is outside the scope of this Technical Expertise facility. Also, we cannot, unfortunately, help with any cost analyses.
