Joining harmonised to non-harmonised? Go L1, L2, L3 & N.

Question: We are looking at modifying an existing electrical installation that was installed about 12 years ago - therefore, three-phase sub-main cable cores are the now superseded red, yellow & blue.

As part of the works, we need to divert several sub-mains and to minimise costs, so we are proposing to joint several sub-mains cables in lieu of replacing.
As the new section of the cable would be the harmonised colours (brown, black, grey), will we be permitted to joint these cables together?

Our first thoughts are that if the cables are suitably labelled at both ends, then it should not be an issue?

Answer by SELECT: You can join cables (harmonised and non-harmonised colours). However you should ensure that the conductors match with - perhaps - alphanumeric labels. For example: L1, L2, L3, N etc.

Answer by the ECA: I would suggest marking the interface L1, L2, L3 & N. There should also be a notice at the origin stating that two colour code systems are present.
